Stress
Management
In essence,
stress is a primitive bodily reaction that provides energy to either
fight or run away. it mobilises and channels that energy to meet any
challenge - it is neither good nor bad, but what helps to make it
one or the other is the attitude towards the experience. In the
present day world, people are not usually faces with a simple fight
or flight - they are subjected to a great number of frustrating
experiences, not being certain of the outcome.
When one is
very tense, the muscles and organs in the body respond in kind. This
tension is self-fulfilling, and we tend to over-produce stress
hormones which cause further change in the management of the body
and mind. Very often it becomes a vicious cycle, and unless broken
we become susceptible to stress-induced disease states.
How does stress feel to you? Physical symptoms - like
an upset stomach, loss of appetite, overeating, chronic headache,
insomnia, rashes, rapid heartbeat - are signs of stress. Some
